The physical dimensions of the 12-24 ART are very similar to the chief competitor (the Canon 11-24mm), which is 4.3”/109.22mm x 5.2”/133.8mm and weighs 2.6lb/1180g. Fortunately the Sigma doesn’t copy the Canon’s eye-watering price tag of right under $3000 USD, although the $1599 USD price tag definitely takes the ART series to a new
The lens in question (as in title) is a Canon EF-S 24mm f/2,8 STM. This isn't really a wide angle lens, it is more of a general purpose walk about lens on your camera. The focal length, 24mm, indicates the field of view and the smaller the number the more "wide angle" it is. The standard Canon kit lens, 18-55mm, is wider angle at the 18mm end.
This Canon lens for APS-C format DSLRs has a pancake design that enables a super-slim profile just 23mm deep. It's also a real lightweight at 125g - less than half the weight of Canon’s more conventional EF 24mm lens f/2.8 lens for full-frame DSLRs.
The Rokinon/Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE isn’t quite as slim as the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake, but it certainly comes close. This is a Sony e-mount lens that will make your Sony full frame camera feel more like a compact camera, and it makes an excellent standard lens on any Sony APS-C body too. Highly Recommended.
Checking out the lens behind one of my most popular reviews ever (!).This lens will work on Canon's APS-C digital SLR cameras, but NOT full-frame digital SLR
. The last budget lens from Canon that I reviewed was the interesting Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM, a wide angle prime with both big flaws (huge barrel distortion, heavy vignette) but also big strengths (good autofocus, good sharpness and color). Like that lens, the new RF 28mm F2.8 STM comes to market at a price point of $299 USD, which means that
For a long time I shot 35mm film. I had a Canon AE-1 camera and a 50mm f/1.8 lens, and that’s it—one camera and one lens. After awhile, though, I began to collect gear. I acquired more cameras and more lenses. One lens was a Canon 24mm f/2.8. Coming from 50mm, the 24mm focal-length lens seemed to be extremely wide-angle to me.
The EF 40mm f/2.8 STM was announced in June 2012, alongside the EOS 650D (Rebel T4i) SLR and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom. These two lenses were Canon's first to use a linear stepper motor for focusing, giving rise to the 'STM' designation; this motor type allows silent refocusing during movie recording, and has therefore become widely-used in lenses for mirrorless cameras. This means
5 Reasons Why You SHOULD Consider The Canon EF S 24mm Lens! This small little "pancake lens" packs a mean punch! At only $130 this is definitely a lens worth
Photozone analysed Canon’s new pancake lens for APS-C cameras. The EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM has more to offer than the low price might suggest. The only weak point of the lens is vignetting. From the conclusion: […] nothing wrong with the optical performance of the new Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM.
